Check out our round-up of 7 actually wearable menswear trends for this summer season that will up your cool factor without necessarily taking you out of your comfort zone.

Tonal Looks

Tonal dressing is an easy and effortless way to stay stylish this summer season 2018. You’ve probably tried this style move many times already whether it’s the classic total black look or tonal navy. For SS18, why not opt for lighter tonal looks, for instance, in grey, tan or beige. Tonal looks in pink, mint or light blue are also a good idea as it gets warmer.

The key to nailing a tonal look for men is wearing three items in similar shades of one color. Check out these images to give you some idea. Think of the colors you’re already stocked with. If you have a lightweight summer blazer in beige or tan, khaki chinos, which is a menswear staple anyway, getting a nude t-shirt to finish up this tonal look is easy. Light colored sneakers for footwear, and you have yourself a nice, on-trend tonal look for summer.

For a more formal take, for instance, for a summer wedding, why not got for a suited look in grey finished off with a grey tie.

All White Everything

Another easy way to nail tonal dressing is the all-white look. You don’t see the white-on-white combination too often in menswear, so it may seem a bit too bold a style move at first. But take cues from these gentlemen. You can start with two white items and a dark jacket. For footwear, smart things up with brown loafers or driving shoes or sleek leather sneakers. One of the easiest ways to get that Eighties vibe is to try out of of the most popular looks we saw on the catwalks this season: wear white from head-to-toe. If you think this is a bit bold, try swapping out your top layer for an indigo denim jacket or light, tailored navy blazer. For shoes, try smart black or brown leather sandals or penny loafers - this will instantly smarten things up.

Think Pink

We’ve already talked about the millennial pink trend and how to wear a pink shirt in this article. If you’re still on the fence about wearing pink, summer is the best time to try it. Think a t-shirt, a polo or a micro printed short sleeve shirt in pale pink. A pair of shorts in dusty pink is also a great idea for hot summer days. If you’re feeling especially fashion-forward, why not get yourself a pair of chinos in eye-popping hot pink? Now that’s a bold style move and a cool conversation starter.

Vertical Stripes

SS18 is officially the vertical stripe season. No other pattern was as popular on the SS18 runways as the vertical stripe. Stripes are nothing new or groundbreaking, but there are modifications to the pattern that will make you look fresh and on-trend for this summer season. Double stripes on short sleeve button shirts, thick stripes or shoulder stripe on t-shirts, side stripe on sweatpants, or classic and flattering pinstripes on suits - there’s a wide choice of cool items you can add to your summer wardrobe this year.

Tropical Print

Speaking patterns, if you’re looking for something edgier than stripes, how about tropical prints? They may seem hard to pull off, especially when you remember your dad’s gaudy, a size too big Hawaiian shirt, but if you do manage to find the right shirt, it’ll add that much more style and originality to your summer wardrobe this year. By 'the right one' we mean a subtler slim-fit version in pared-down shades. Wear it with fitted jeans or tailored pants in neutral colors.

Slogan T-shirts & Sweatshirts

Over the past few seasons, a top with a printed message has become designers’ favorite, with big names like Burberry, Balenciaga and their likes producing their own slogan t-shirts and sweatshirts. You don’t need to spend a fortune to keep up with this latest fashion trend. There are plenty of cheaper but no less chic versions of slogan tees out there. Check out affordable alternatives from Zara, Topman, Mango, and Asos. Wear your slogan t-shirt tucked in chinos or jeans. Throw on a light jacket and finish off with a pair of sneakers.

Breast Pocket Jackets

Safari, field, and military jackets have already become classic silhouettes in menswear that nevertheless feel modern. They also took centre on the runways this season. Sure, your suede bomber is still a go, but if you’re looking for something new, consider investing in a field jacket. You can through it on over jeans or tailoring, sweaters or oxford shirts, sneakers or loafers - that’s how versatile it is. For warmer days, you can opt for light overshirts with double breast pockets.
