If your friend is expecting and you're invited to a baby shower, or if you're a mommy-to-be looking forward to your own baby shower — either way, you're probably wondering what you should wear. Well, we asked fashion bloggers and beautiful moms Mihaela Teicu and Natalie Savchenko for their advice. Miha is a new mom and the fashion blogger behind Skinny Buddha, and Natalie is a style columnist and the author of Style Vinaigrette.
What to wear to a baby shower as a guest
Q: First off, is there any dress code for baby showers?
Q: Are there any style don'ts for baby showers? What should you not wear to a baby shower as a guest?
Miha: I am not one to really care about rules and don'ts when it comes to fashion. My only advice is: don't put too much effort into standing out or showing off, you don't want to steal the stage from the mom-to-be.
Natalie: First of all, your outfit should complement the occasion. Baby showers are not the time or place for black leather, over the knee boots, extra high heels and studded accessories. It would be quite inappropriate if you wore a tight fitting sequined dress or a mini dress with a plunging neckline. Remember, the event may be attended by people who won’t approve of such a revealing outfit. So stay conservative in choosing your clothes and accessories for a baby shower. To stay on the safe side, also avoid wearing black from head to toe.
Natalie: Well, you can use any colors that make Pantone's color palette. For Spring-Summer 2017 the focus is on colors of nature actualized on garments, bringing a mixture of vitality, relaxation and the great outdoors. Nature’s neutral, Pantone Greenery is a versatile 'trans-seasonal' shade that lends itself to many color combinations. Also, pastels have always been traditional baby colors but they are chic for grown-ups too. If pastels aren’t your thing, you can always opt for neutral colours. White, beige and blush are great colors to wear to a classy baby shower because they are neutral but still very elegant. It can be a monochromatic look with a mix of textures that keeps it from being boring. Floral prints are also a perfect choice for a baby shower.
Natalie: I recommend wearing a stylish dress in a sweet pastel hue or a colorful floral print. You can opt for a classic belt wrap silhouette, a knee length flared dress or a casual maxi dress – any that will flatter your body type. If you prefer separates to a dress, wear a skirt paired with a chic blouse or a ruffled top and a pair of cropped pants. Finish your outfit with matching shoes and you will look fantastic!
Natalie: Just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean you have to give up on your style. Dress in layers for the baby shower. Keep your winter fashion casual and stylish with warm and cosy sweater, denim and high boots. Another good option is a cardigan over a shirt or a blouse paired with comfortable pants and finished off with medium heel boots and a coat. Even a turtleneck can be feminine and appropriate for the baby shower. You can wear a dress over it or combine it with a printed skirt, tights, nice shoes and outwear. Accessorise with elegant jewelry. Or you can keep your look simple and chic in a long sleeve midi dress or a turtleneck maxi dress and a woolen coat. Choose appropriate shoes, add a touch of glam with a jewelled statement necklace and earrings, wrap a scarf around and the look is complete. Another tip - try not to wear leggings/jeans for a baby shower in a restaurant. A dress is better for those occasions.

What to wear to your baby shower
Q: Do you have any general style tips on dressing up your bump for special occasions?
Miha: Contrary to what you might think or what you've been told, dare to wear prints and horizontal stripes! No need to invest in formal maternity wear, try working with what you've already got in your closet. Wear a long flowy dress and cinch it with a thin belt just above your baby bump, or try pairing a knee length skirt with an elastic waistband with one of your boyfriend's/husband's white shirts.
Natalie: A baby shower is a great time to embrace your feminine side, so finding the perfect maternity dress is key!
Most baby showers usually include a lot of moving around, so make sure you go for something comfortable which lets you move around freely. Wearing high heels to a baby shower is not a very good idea, as it equals being uncomfortable all the time. Choose flats or low heels. Pay attention to accessories — they are what can take a look to the next level if done right. But don’t overdo it; I suggest wearing simple and classic jewelry. Regardless of your style, your outfit should be totally comfy.
Natalie: I think that on any celebration you can’t go wrong with a dress. I prefer dresses with a romantic feminine vibe or cropped pants in pair with an elegant blouse. Incorporate a little bling with a stylish clutch, clustered rhinestone drop earrings, and low heel pumps or ballerina flats.
